About Me

So, somehow you have managed to stumble over to my blog. Or, perhaps you don’t stumble. Maybe you just gracefully leapt over here. Whatever it is, I’m glad you came!

My name is Kaylyn– not Kayla, not Caitlin, not Kaylin. I am a 20-year-old student, teacher, girlfriend and blogger (I mention “girlfriend” because it really is hard work, you know).

I am studying towards a science degree, specifically BSc Informatics. This means that I am attempting to learn how to code (currently in Python and C++) and do boring business-accounting-things. I am fascinated with software development, which is why I chose to do an informatics degree (the business and accounting just, unfortunately, comes with it).

That’s not all…

I am a certified TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teacher, which I dedicate a number of hours to every month. I sit with an HD webcam, ugly headset and the fastest Internet available to teach Chinese, Taiwanese and Japanese children and adults conversational English via a special video conferencing software. I really enjoy this job as I can communicate with hundreds and thousands of foreigners who, too, have an HD webcam (just the children) and an ugly headset. This job pays my university fees and, of course, my self-diagnosed shopping addiction. The bonus is that I have a true appreciation for Asian culture and the children are too cute for words!

Let’s get to the real reason why you’re here, you probably want to know about my blog.

I started “Love, Kaylyn” in August 2016 when I was 19-years-old. I wanted to be creative and I wanted to write. I love writing (sometimes). My focus is mainly on beauty, lifestyle and food, but I will add a few random odds and ends when I feel like it. I believe in cruelty-free beauty, which means that I do not support brands who test on animals or have their ingredients tested on animals, have suppliers who test on animals or third-parties who test on animals on their behalf (INCLUDING brands who do not test on animals “unless required by law“), although I do still support cruelty-free brands with parent companies who are not cruelty-free. (I get most of my information from Cruelty-Free Kitty and Logical Harmony.) There is no special meaning behind the blog’s name, I wish I could tell you a magnificent tale about the unique origin of it, but it just popped up when I was trying to think of one. Each post that I write is like a letter from me, so it makes sense. Right?

I hope you enjoy reading my content as much as I love creating it! You can easily contact me if you want to talk, I don’t mind! I am an introvert, so you’ll be doing me a favour by saying hello.

You could stop reading now, or you can continue if you’re as nosy as me. Here are a few more facts about me:

I have a boyfriend, Paul, and we have been together since November 2011 (I know, right!)

I love Harry Potter and all things magical!

I believe that Lana Del Rey is one of the greatest artists ever.

I am obsessed with baking.

I am an avid coffee-drinker.

Muse is my favourite band.

I am a feminist (no, I don’t hate men- most of the time).

I have been playing The Sims since the age of six, and I still love it!

I lived in Dubai for nearly two years before moving back to Cape Town, South Africa.

I enjoy listening to alternative music, mostly rock and heavy metal (and Lana, obviously).

I love the 90s and early 2000s chick flicks.

That’s it for now!
