This year, three quarters of autumn was actually pretty darn hot. I guess summer in Cape Town only ends in April. Things have eventually started cooling down though, and winter is definitely on its way. What I love about the colder months is that it is still dark when I wake up. I know that some people really don’t like that, but I honestly love it.
Monthly favourites is a popular topic in the blogging community. However, I don’t actually switch things up often enough to do a monthly favourites post twelve times a year. I decided to do seasonal favourites instead because that is when I really do change everything, from clothing to makeup and everything else in between!
SwiitchBeauty #SLAYSFORDAYS Eyeshadow Palette
I bought this eyeshadow palette a couple of weeks ago, along with the SwiitchBeauty eyebrow palette. I have been using it almost every day ever since. I mean, I don’t really need to explain why this eyeshadow palette is absolutely perfect for autumn (look at those shades!), but perhaps you want to know why it was good enough to be on this list?
For R350, you are getting an extremely versatile and very good quality eyeshadow palette. I did a few swatches on my arm with a dry Essence eyeshadow brush and got some incredibly pigmented swatches! There is a bit of fallout though, so I always have to do some dusting. I haven’t used all 35 shades yet, but trust me when I say that you can achieve an endless amount of autumnal makeup looks with this palette.
Essence Lash Princess Sculpted Volume Mascara
The Lash Princess Sculpted Volume mascara is part of Essence’s new permanent range, which is made up of some amazing and not-so-amazing new products. If I was stuck on a deserted island and had a choice of three things to bring with me, this would be it. Okay, not really, but you get the point: I (sort of) cannot live without this mascara!
I put this on every morning for work at around 6:45 AM. By 6PM, it is still on my lashes with the absolute minimum flaking. It slightly curls my lashes, giving them both length and volume. I don’t actually know what more to say about it, other than I LOVE IT and I highly recommend it.
I’ve got a review coming up of some of the new Essence products, so keep an eye out for that! This mascara is sold at Dis-Chem stores, as well as online at Takealot.com.
NYX Lingerie “Corset” & NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream “Abu Dhabi”
I believe wholeheartedly that NYX has the best drugstore liquid lipsticks on the market. The two that I have been wearing this season is the NYX Lingerie in the shade Corset, and NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in the shade Abu Dhabi. Both of them have a matte finish.
I would say that the NYX Lingerie lipstick is thicker than the Soft Matte Lip Cream. It smells a bit like glue, which I don’t like, but it is definitely the most long-lasting out of the two.
Both of these are sold at selected Clicks stores.
Essence The Nudes Nailpolishes “Crunchy Cake” & “Nude Sweet Nude”
Essence has some of the best affordable nailpolish out there. This season I’ve been alternating between “Crunchy Cake” and “Nude Sweet Nude” (which is quite coppery, actually).
You might still be able to find these at both Dis-Chem and Clicks stores.
Hey Gorgeous Chocolate Chip Body Scrub Bliss
This body scrub smells just like chocolate, which I love! Perhaps it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I quite enjoy smelling like chocolate. The downside of this body scrub is that the scent is not as long-lasting as what I would like it to be.
You can grab this body scrub from Hey Gorgeous stores (I got mine from the one in Bayside) or online.
Village Candle Spiced Pumpkin & Warm Apple Pie
Is it really much of a surprise that the two most autumnal candles in existence ended up on my Autumn Favourites? Probably not. I’ve been burning these almost every day this season, and I will continue to burn them throughout winter too.
If you want to know more about these, read my review: Village Candle: Autumn 2017 | Picks & Review.
Forever 21 Burnt Orange Sweater
I got this on sale from Forever 21 in Canal Walk a few months ago. It is literally the thickest, most comfortable sweater that I own!
White Converse All Stars
Featuring a very dirty pair of All Stars.
Who doesn’t love a pair of white Converse shoes? They go with pretty much anything and I have been wearing these 99% of the time this season. The only downside is that cleaning them is the biggest burden of my life.
I got mine from Footgear.
Well, that’s it from me. See you again in winter (or summer, if you’re in the north)!
